Hester Sue Johnson

Hester Sue Johnson, age 72 of Rocky Mount, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 6, 2026.

Sue was born on October 23, 1953, to the late James "Hughie" Johnson and Nobie Robertson Johnson. After graduating from Franklin County High School and Patrick Henry Community College, she worked at the Franklin County Sheriff's Department where she retired in 2016.

Along with her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her siblings: Virginia Johnson McCormick, George Taylor "Slim" Johnson, Helen Johnson Knott, and James Macarthur "Dar" Johnson.

She is survived by her two special sisters and caregivers, Carolyn Forbes (Larry) and Emily Forbes; and her sister, Barbara Buckner. Sue is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who loved her dearly.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to her dedicated caregivers, Cinda Perdue, Mearl Boswell, and Terry Parker, as well as the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice, for their compassionate care and support.

A memorial service will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 13, 2026. Her family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
