Howard D. Abshire “Yogi”, age 82 of Boones Mill, died Sunday, February 24, 2008.
He was born on November 28, 1925 a son of the late Rev. William David and Flora Mills Abshire. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sister-in-law, Rev. W. Randolph Abshire, Jesse Abshire and wife Mildred, Paul Abshire; infant brother, David H. Abshire; sisters and brother-in-law, Mae and Raymond Webster, Jane Ellen A. Cundiff.
Mr. Abshire is survived by his wife Jacqueline “Jackie” Nunley Abshire; son, Rev. Dr. William Abshire and wife Linda; two grandchildren, Kate Elizabeth and Kara Dawn Abshire; sister and brother-in-law, Naomi and Cecil Wingo; sisters-in-law, Marie S. Abshire, Helen F. Abshire; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Connie N. and Robert Bierly.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Robert Miller, Rev. Leonard Martin, and Rev. Maurice Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Boones Mill Church of the Brethren, 25366 Virgil H. Goode Highway, Boones Mill, Va. 24065 or Boones Mill Volunteer Fire Department, c/o Chief Kerry Renick 285 Cahas Lane, Boones Mill, Va. 24065 or to a charity of your choice.
His family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
