Howard Monroe Hodges, Sr.

Howard Monroe Hodges, Sr. age 86 of Rocky Mount was born February 5, 1930 and went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2016. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Hodges; parents, Mattie and Abraham Hodges; grandson, Craig Clark; and numerous brothers and sisters. He is survived by four children, Frances Clark (Bobby), Wanda Perdue (Jerry), Sam Hodges (Lynne), Mary Ann McGhee; eight grandchildren, Tonya Lynne Brummitt, Adam McGhee, Jackie McGhee, Jason Clark, Forrest Clark, Mandy Harrell, Stephanie Garmany, and Dani Hodges; numerous great-grandchildren; many special friends; and his family at Fork Mountain Rest Home where he enjoyed living for many years. Howard was always proud to be a hard worker and enjoyed working for the State department, driving cab for many years in Franklin County, and working for Bassett Furniture. He was honored to be featured in a book called “The Factory Man”. He had a wonderful singing voice nothing made him happier than to sing one of the many songs he loved. One of his favorite memories to share was of him joining Loretta Lynn for an acapella of “After the Fire is Gone”. He always encouraged everyone around him to join in and sing along to his favorite hymnal “Amazing Grace”. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and a joy to be around. He is going to be greatly missed but we know that heaven got a special person. His family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May, 11, 2016 and the family will have a private service after cremation.
