Hubert (Dan) Hodges, Jr., age 70 of Hardy, born August 19, 1942 went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 with his wife and children by his side. Dan was an active member of Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church. Some of his interests included farming, music and loving his five grandchildren. He attended Franklin County High School then continued his education at Ferrum College and West Virginia University. While at Ferrum College he received the honor of being National Junior College All American and player of the year and was recently inducted into the Ferrum College Hall of Fame. Dan was also the head baseball coach at Franklin County High School in 1976 when he took his entire team to the state finals. Dan was preceded in death by his parents Hubert and Catherine Wray Hodges. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Carol Jean Hodges; his children, Christy Turner and husband Carlton, Josh Hodges and wife Melissa, Leigh Ann Poindexter and husband James; five grandchildren, Cameron, Kendall, Sawyer, Easton and Mallory; sisters and brothers-in-law, Doris and Lee Eames, Gladys and Jim Taylor; brother, Pete Hodges; several nieces and nephews, other family and many friends. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday February 9, 2013 at Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Sasser officiating. Interment will follow in the Hodges Family Cemetery at the home. The family suggest memorial donations be made to Burnt Chimney United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 63 Wirtz, Va. 24184. His family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
