Irene C. Ferguson

Irene C. Ferguson, age 78 of Rocky Mount, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008. She was born June 9, 1929 to the late Chafe L. and Iloe Young Cooper. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Albert Henry Ferguson. She was a longtime and charter member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-law David Ferguson of Morgantown, NC, Daniel and Phyllis Ferguson of Highpoint, NC; one daughter and son-in-law Robin and Ricky Overton of Rocky Mount; grandchildren Gregg Ferguson and wife Erica, Michelle Manges and husband Dan; Logan and Ryan Overton; brothers Avery Pedro Cooper, Gerald Cooper, and Cash Cooper; sisters Martha Brooks, Gaynelle Messenger and Kitty Haynes; numerous nieces and nephews; special friends Margaret Doughton and Marie Fulcher; caregiver Linda Jones. Irene will be missed by many friends and family members. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 3907, Martinsville, VA 24115. Funeral services will be conducted from Furnace Creek Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Mike Lawhorne, Rev. Joe Dillon, and Pastor Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Furnace Creek Baptist Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
