Iris Meadors

Iris Arnn Meadors, age 90, passed away Friday, January 2, 2026. She was born on May 5, 1935. She was a true southern lady, soft spoken, and modest, but artistic and athletic. Iris grew up in Martinsville, Virginia. She graduated from Martinsville High School. She attended Longwood University and Patrick & Henry Community College. She excelled in art and enjoyed water skiing and tennis, and taught tennis for years. She taught kindergarten at Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church and taught Sunday School. She loved to travel and traveled to Europe as a Spanish tutor. Iris was a member of Franklin Heights Church, of Rocky Mount, VA. She and her husband Joe lived in Bassett for many years. She helped tirelessly while her children were growing up with all their activities. She was always ready behind the scenes to assist Joe when he needed to entertain for work. Upon Joe’s retirement, Iris and Joe moved to Smith Mountain Lake where they resided for many years before moving to the Kings Grant Community. For the past seven years, Iris and Joe have been living at Kings Grant. Iris is survived by her husband of 71 years, Joe R. Meadors; her daughter, Susan Meadors Warren (Stuart); sons, Richard Meadors (Candle), David Meadors; grandsons, David, Paul (Gabby) and Daniel Warren (Alison). She is also survived by her sister, Neva Kerns (Jack). Iris was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Ruth Justice Arnn, and sister Gail Lewis. Iris had wonderful caregivers for the past four years, treating her like family. Also, a special thanks to Mountain Valley  The family will receive friends 10-12 noon  Wednesday, January 7, 2026  at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center,  Rocky Mount.  Graveside services will be held at Roselawn Burial  Park, Martinsville,  2:00 p.m. Wednesday  with Pastor  Stan Parris officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Franklin Heights Church, 110 Hilltop Dr., Rocky Mount, VA 24151 or Tackfully Teamed Riding Academy, Inc, 7975 Henry Road, Henry, VA 24102.
