Jack Willard Harman, age 77, born July 24, 1931 went to be with the Lord on Friday May 8, 2009. He died peacefully at home with his wife, daughters and grandchildren by his side. Jack retired from Grand Home Furnishings in 1998, after a long career in the furniture business. He married the love of his life Margaret Nichols on December 15, 1956. Their union was blessed with five children, Charlene, Sabrina, Carolyn, Renee and Jacqueline. In 1993, Jack and Margaret headed south to plan their retirement on Smith Mountain Lake, Va. where they joined Halesford Baptist Church. Jack was highly regarded for his kindness, humor, generosity, moral leadership and dedication to God and his church family. In addition, Jack was a loving husband, devoted brother, Bronze Star Veteran of the Korean War (1950-1953) and servant of God. Jack was a loving father and papa whose spirit of strength, support, and wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed by his wife and everyone of his children. We will always remember in our hearts Jack’s passions of woodworking (many children in Moneta were recipients of his creations), Nascar Racing, especially #3, hanging out with his friends at Lake Mart,(old Saunders market) and Pagan’s Garage, playing card games with his family and making people laugh. Jack is survived by his spouse, Margaret Nichols Harman, his five daughters, Charlene (Paul) Davenport of Richmond, Va., Sabrina (Steve) Wooldridge of Carmel. IN., Carolyn (Ivan) Sheffield of Nashville, TN., Sondra Renee (Brad) McMillion of Bluefield, Va., and Jacqueline (Tommy) Valentine of Miami, FL., Nine grandchildren Matthew Davenport, Mark Wooldridge, Bryce Wooldridge, Jacob Sheffield, Alyson Williams, LeAndra McMillion, Hannah McMillion, Jack Valentine and Steven Valentine. Also his sisters Lillie Keefer of Westminster MD., Francies Leidy Littlestown PA., Peggy Brown of Memphis TN., along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph Harman and sisters, Iris Thompson and Reba Huff. He will be greatly missed by all. Services will be conducted from Halesford Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. Monday May 11, 2009 with Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Halesford Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be sent to one of the following, Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Carilion Hospice of Frankin County or Halesford Baptist Church.
