James William “Jim” Alderman, age 89 of Rocky Mount died Thursday, January 5, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Leonard and Lina White Alderman; and sister, Faye Dalton. Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Jean Akers Alderman; daughter, Nancy Ward (Rich); grandchildren, Alex, Megan, Olivia Claire and Katherine; sister, Jeanne Robinson; brother, Roger Bernard (Becky); several nieces and a nephew. Jim was a United States Navy Veteran of World War II. He retired from the Virginia State Police as Master Trooper with 42 years of service and was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church. Jim enjoyed woodworking, country and bluegrass music and loved learning anything new. Funeral services will be conducted from Franklin Heights Baptist Church 2 p.m. Saturday with Dr. Stan Parris officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park with funeral honors by the Virginia State Police Honor Guard and honorary pallbearers Sam Vaughan and other Franklin County retired Troopers. The family suggests memorial donations be made to Franklin Heights Baptist Church Building Fund. His family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 12:30 p.m. at Franklin Heights Baptist Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
