James Alton Robertson, age 81 of Rocky Mount died Wednesday, June 22, 2011. He was born July 4, 1929 in Rocky Mount. It is said that the measure of a man is not who he was, but what he was. In his life James was a good son, brother, cousin, soldier, husband, father, grandfather, Christian and friend. He measures among the very best. He will be missed so much from the family circle. James was preceded in death by his parents, Alberta and Otey Robertson; brother, Dewey Robertson; and sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Frank Lawson. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia; sons and daughters-in-law, Brent and Teresa Robertson of Roanoke, Christopher and Betty Robertson of Rocky Mount; daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Alan Broholm of Boones Mill; six grandchildren, Kendall, Evan, Alex and Amy Robertson, Alana and Jaeger Broholm. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Taylor and Mayree Robertson; sister and brother-in-law, Noreen and Tommy Guthrie; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted from Rocky Mount United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Saturday with Dr. John A. Plummer officiating. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall to celebrate his life. Interment will be private. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
