James Ottis Bowling, age 93 of Ferrum went home to be with the Lord Monday, February 7, 2011.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Goldie Hatcher Bowling; his parents, J.L. Bowling and Toka Jane Thomas Bowling; four brothers, Buel, Chester, Harry and Edward; three sisters, Thurley, Donnie and Nora; one great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Shively.
Surviving are his two sons, Bruce (Linda) Bowling and Wayne (Margie) Bowling; three daughters, Bonnie (Roger) Shively, Jane (Roger) Hodges and Robin (Bev) Whitmer; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lovelene Hensley, Irene (Harold) Thomason and Victoria (Jim) Kirby; sisters-in-laws, Ola Bowling, Nina Bowling and Carol Bowling; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Thursday with Dr. William Shively and Pastor Terry Covey officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite charity.
His family will be receiving friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount and other times at the family home.
