James William Burgess

James William Burgess, age 78 of Callaway died Friday, December 27, 2013. He was born December 17, 1935 a son of the late Luster and Lillie Showalter Burgess and was also preceded in death by his brothers, Darrell and Grover; and sisters, Lovella Kinsey and Lorraine Burgess. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Liz" Burgess; daughter, Rebecca Lynn Burgess; sons, James Jeffrey Burgess, Michael David Burgess (Karen); step-daughter, Lisa Outten (David); step-granddaughter, Brittany and Bryan Stopp; step-grandson, David Mark Outten; special niece, Joyce Walters; other family members and friends. James retired after 29 years of service with Elizabeth Arden. He was a United States Army Veteran and member of Fairmont Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Leonard Castleman officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fairmont Baptist Church Building Fund. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
