James Reid “Jim” Carter, Jr., age 81 of Moneta died Friday, June 5, 2015 at his home. He was born February 16, 1934 in McEwen, TN to the late James Reid Carter, Sr. and Mayzell Hutcheson Carter. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Alma Lou Bolling Carter; two children, Pamela Carter Wright (Bruce), Paul Andrew Carter (Donna); five grandchildren, Bethany Wright Shumate (Jonathan), Jessica Wright Huang (Ching), Andrew Wright (Tracy), Molly Carter and Jake Carter; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Huang and Rebekah Shumate; four brothers and four sisters, Robert, Ray, Dick, Troy, Marylee, Brenda, Linda and Carolyn Sue. Jim was a Steam Engineer at Potomac Electric Power Company in Washington DC. He retired in 1994, and then moved to Smith Mountain Lake. As a member of Trinity Ecumenical Parish he served as Deacon and Youth Advisor. Jim enjoyed square dancing with the lake square dancers. Most importantly he was a man devoted to family, friends and served others with his whole heart.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who had a sense of humor that made everyone he met laugh.

A Celebration of Life service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Ecumenical Parish with Pastor Philip Bouknight officiating.

A private entombment will be held for family at the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum at Mountain View Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Trinity Ecumenical Parish, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, Va. 24121 or to the Scruggs Rescue Squad, 2130 Bluewater Drive, Moneta, Va. 24121. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount – Smith Mountain Lake.
