James D. Hodges, age 78 of Rocky Mount passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Salem after a long illness.
Born March 3, 1931 a son of the late Dallas and Thelma A. Hodges, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Earl M. Hodges.
He served in the United States Marine Corps and was in trucking for 37 years.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Virginia Drewry Hodges of the home; one daughter, Lisa Masters and husband Jim of Jonesborough, TN; one son, Dan Hodges and wife Tracy of Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Chelsea and Paige Masters of Jonesborough, TN, Cody Hodges of Nashville, TN; one sister, Louise Bowles of Rocky Mount; sisters-in-law, Judy Hodges and Judy Drewry; special brother-in-law, P.M. Drewry; several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside services will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park, Thursday, May 7, 2009.
In lieu of flowers and food, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 8th Ave., 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
There will be no visitation.
