James "Jim" Dakota Tolliver

James "Jim" Dakota Tolliver, age 78 of Rocky Mount, Virginia, transitioned on  Saturday, October 11, 2025. He was born on September 14, 1947 to the late Reginald and Josephine Tolliver.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Patterson Tolliver; his parents; one brother, Robert Lewis Tolliver; two sisters, Mary Kidd and Costina Muse; two nephews, Greg Muse and Joshua Lewis Tolliver; and one niece, Sharon Kidd.

He leaves to cherish his precious memory his five daughters, Regina Hairston, Christy (Isaac) Perkins, Chasity Tolliver, Jane Tolliver, Matilda (Troy) Pitzer; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five sisters, Gaynell Dickerson, Katie Mcenheimer, Helen (Alvin) Clements, Polly Prunty and Annette (Keith) Person; six brothers, William (Dee Dee) Tolliver, Paul (Laury) Tolliver, Curtis (Carolyn) Tolliver, Johnny (Barbara) Tolliver, Arthur (Audrey) Tolliver and Danny Brooks; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

James “Jim” will be remembered for the deep love he had for his family, his fearless honesty, “Don’t-take-no-mess” attitude, his incredible talent in the kitchen and his loving heart. His memory will live on through the lives he touched and the joy he brought to others.

Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2025. Interment will follow in Truevine Church Cemetery. His family will start receiving friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Friends may also call Friday, October 17, 2025, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
