James Edward Garland

James Edward Garland, age 86 of Hardy passed away peacefully Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Friendship Health and Rehab Center South.

James was born August 24, 1939 a son of the late John and Lula Garland. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary D. Garland; brothers-in-law, Herman, Jimmy and Ralph DeLong, C.D. Byrd and Donald Overstreet; and sister-in-law, Louise D. Byrd.

James was a United States Army Veteran and lifelong farmer. He was a talented wood turner and clock maker. He also worked for Bays Excavating for many years.

He is survived by a devoted friend and caregiver, Brad Hunziker; brothers-in-law, Ray (Marcella) DeLong, John (Marie) DeLong, Danny (Charlona) DeLong; sisters-in-law, Reva DeLong and Cathie Overstreet; numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Franklin Memorial Park 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025 with Pastor Melvin Harris and Pastor Keith Floyd officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
