James Herbert Hodges, age 86 of Ferrum died Wednesday, July 1, 2009.
He was born November 4, 1922 a son of the late Peter and Sally Hodges. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Shively Hodges; brothers, Raymond Hodges and George Hodges.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving in World War II.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Warren and LaJuan Hodges of Ridgeway; two grandchildren, Randall Hodges of Ferrum, Jamie Wilson of Ridgeway; five great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; brothers, Edgar Hodges of Penhook, Lenford and Sally Hodges of Rocky Mount, Hensil and Jane Hodges of Rocky Mount; sister, Hazel Lumpkins; sister-in-law, Isabell Hodges.
Graveside services will be conducted from Maple Grove Cemetery 1 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Steve Tilley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Solid Rock Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Steve Tilley, 5850 Henry Road, Henry, Virginia 24102.
His family will be receiving friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the service on Saturday at Flora Funeral Service, exclusive provider for Veterans & Family Memorial Care, Rocky Mount.
