James Posey Hodges, 84, died peacefully on February 7, 2016 at Carilion Clinic Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was fondly known as "Hezzie," "Junior," "Papa," and "Grandpa Hodges." Jimmy is survived by his son, Jeffrey Brian Hodges (Amanda) and daughter, Sabrina Hodges Tyndall (Ray); step-son, Alan Dale Hodges (Dawn); and his three wonderful granddaughters Jacqueline Tyndall Smith (Jordan), Victoria Gabrielle Tyndall, and Kaylee Slone Hodges. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Macie, Nadine (Clifton), Alan (Peggy), Brady (Marie), Leslie (Virginia), Daniel (Judy), and David (Betty); special friend, Teresa Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Jarret Slone Hodges and brothers and sister, Nelson, Billy, and Joyce. Jimmy was born on October 10, 1931 in Rocky Mount, VA to the late Posey Leslie and Easter J. Hodges. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He and Ruby moved to Miami, FL where he began his career as a furniture refinisher. Jimmy returned to Virginia in 1985 and settled in Roanoke and continued his career as a master furniture refinisher. Jimmy had a generous, giving heart and gave his children and grandchildren whatever he could. His granddaughters were the light of his life and brought him so much happiness and joy. Graveside services will be conducted from the Hodges Family Cemetery (English Road), 2:30 p.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 with Rev. Michael Stump officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warriors. The family would like to thank the staff and physicians of the Neuro Trauma ICU and Palliative Care Unit for their amazing and compassionate care. His family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
