James Thomas Hogan

James T. (Jimmy) Hogan, 81, of Rocky Mount, VA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. Jimmy was born August 23, 1937 to the late Killis B. and Ada M. Hogan of Gretna. He was retired after 51+ years of service as a truck driver. He was a dedicated, faithful and loyal employee everywhere he worked. Jimmy was a simple man who loved his family; always willing to help, never too busy to stop and lend a hand to anyone in time of need and enjoyed watching TV. He was content and happy in his life. He was a member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Kay Hogan; sister, Bernice Hardy; and brothers, Carl and Wayne Hogan. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Virginia; two children, Timmy Hogan (Darnell Brown) and Bonnie Renick (Coy); grandchildren, Bradley and Shannon Quinn (Leslie), Dakota Hogan (Renee Asquith) and Seajay Meador (Brian); great-grandchildren, Emma, Caleb, Holland, and Hogan Quinn, Cayleigh, Kaylynne and Jason Hogan, and Eli Meador; sister, Aleise Matherly; and many special nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him, but grieve not for the time has come for him to go rest high on that mountain. Now he can rest and be at peace with no more pain. A funeral service (Celebration of Life) will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2018 at Furnace Creek Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Hogan officiating. Interment will be 11 a.m. Monday at Franklin Memorial Park with Pastor Philip Bramblet officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Furnace Creek Baptist Church at 975 Scuffling Hill Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Carilion Hospice and all the family and friends who were there for them plus the many prayers during his time of illness.
