James Russell Juncker

James Russell Juncker, age 83 of Penhook passed away Friday, March 5, 2010 at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born November 22, 1926 in Bayonne, N.J., and moved to McLean, Virginia, in 1960 and to Smith Mountain Lake in 1988. He was an avid golfer and one of the first residents at the Waters Edge. He graduated from Teaneck High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the Navy. He reported to the Great Lakes Naval Station where he won a fleet appointment to the US Naval Academy, from which he graduated in 1949. He married his high school sweetheart the day after graduation on June 4, 1949. During his years of employment he worked for Secony Mobil, Wilson Company, Texas Instruments and Hughes Aircraft, where he was in the Electron Dynamics division in Washington, DC. Mr. Juncker was a member of the Washington Golf and Country Club, Arlington, Va., the Farmington Country Club, Charlottesville, Va., and the Waters Edge Country Club, Penhook. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Carol Juncker; two daughters, Jill Juncker Roberts and husband James, Jayme Juncker and husband Stan Corey; four grandchildren, Eva Juncker, Russ Juncker, Kirsten Roberts and Meredith Roberts; one great-grandson, James Russell Juncker, III (Jack). Memorial services will be conducted from Christ Community Church, Penhook 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. His family will receive friends following the service at the Waters Edge Country Club.
