On Thursday, August 14, 2025, James Alfred Kirk departed this life peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and their unwavering love after a long battle with dementia. James was the cornerstone of his family that spans five generations. His legacy lives on in the lives of each of them, who carries forward James’ spirit of kindness, strength, and love.
James was born on the family farm in Truevine and grew up with his parents, Taylor and Callie, along with his eight siblings. After meeting and marrying the love of his life, Frances, they lived in Figsboro for twelve years before returning to Truevine, where they have lived since.
James and Frances enjoyed 69 years of marriage together, sharing a lifetime of love, laughter, and memories. James became a father in 1956, a Poppa in 1979, a great-Poppa in 1995, and a great-great-Poppa in 2008.
James is survived by his wife, Frances; his son, Jamie; grandchildren, Faith (Jody), Jason; his seven great-grandchildren, Briana (Andruw), Alicia (Jacob), Callie (Tyler), Madelyn (Aaron), Hannah (David), Zechary (Allison), Joshua (Amber); and nine great-great-grandchildren, Declan, Addi, Kallan, Graham, Lainey, Rylie, Luna, Nova, Solomon, niece and great-niece, Mary, Jessica; siblings, Ben (Lucy), Reva, Arlen, Carl (Aldean), and Gerald (Betty).
James was preceded in death by his parents, John Taylor Kirk and Callie Gregory Kirk; son, Barry Lynn Kirk; siblings, Betty Marie (Glenn) Plybon, Emerson (Nellie) Kirk, and Claudine (Curtis) Law.
Funeral services will be conducted from Boones Chapel Church 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025 with Pastor Michael Gallimore officiating. Interment will follow in the Kirk Family Cemetery on James and Frances’s farm. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
