James Edward Meador, age 85 of Wirtz went home on Saturday February 25, 2012 after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s. He was born on October 24, 1926 to the late James Elmer Meador and Fannie Ferguson Meador. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 63 years, Lois Shively Meador. He also leaves one son Joey Alan Meador, a daughter, Karen (Ricky) Clifton, and his loyal canine friend, “Deja” and his cat, “Buddy”. James had one brother Eugene (Velma) Meador; and sisters, Berta Mae (Houston) Snoddy and Bertha Clingenpeel. Also surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lester (Doris Ann) Shively, Lottie (Andrew) Cundiff, Judy (Bill) Talley and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a deacon at Laurel Ridge Primitive Baptist Church and retired from the Va. Dept. of Highways after 28 years. He loved his family and church friends, his pets and sharing the things he raised in his garden. The family wishes to thank two special sisters-in-law, Judy Talley and Lottie Cundiff, Dr. Jack Bumgardner and wife Barbara, Hospice team members Jan, Kitty, Karen, Dina and Rick and other caregivers, Jerry Smith and the “guys” for all of their support during his illness. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday February 29, 2012 at Flora Funeral Chapel with Elder Tim Crane and Elder Sam Lilly officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
