James (Jim) A. Morrison, 62, died on Monday January 8, 2018 peacefully in his Smith Mtn. Lake home after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born on May 14, 1955 in Ogdensburg, NY, son of James S. and the late Dorothy Morrison. Jim grew up in Canton, NY and received a BA degree from SUNY Albany. In 1979 he moved to Roanoke, VA and later became a successful small business owner of United Security and Controls, Inc. and Morrison Mechanical. He enjoyed being a member of the Waterfront County Club, boating, jet skiing, being a hobby meteorologist, enjoying his grandsons and relaxing at Smith Mtn. Lake. He is fondly remembered for his quick whit and his ability to make people laugh. Jim is survived by his wife of 39 years, Theresa (Terry Reasoner); and daughters, Kari Morrison, Atlanta, GA, Kelly (Garrett) Brown, Atlanta, GA, Katie (Ben) Bredenkamp, Charleston, SC; grandsons, Aiden and Kieran Brown; Logan and Cooper Bredenkamp; father, James S. Morrison; siblings, Sheryl Morrison (Lynn Blackmore), Andy (Sandy) Morrison, Wendy Landreth, Dan (Cammie) Morrison, Dixie (Loren) Widrick, Lori Morrison (Bob Heman), Scott Morrison; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial Service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, January 13 th at noon at Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta, VA followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Caringbridge.org; TheDoorways.org. Special thanks to Blue Ridge Cancer Center, Carilion Memorial Oncology and Richmond VCU Oncology.
