James Robert Nichols, age 86 of Glade Hill died Monday, April 21, 2014. He was born on July 27, 1927 to Robert L. and Rosie Whitlow Nichols. He was preceded in death by his parents; two infant siblings; and his brother, Silas Nichols and sister-in-law, Ruth Nichols; and an infant great-granddaughter, Rebekah Lawrence. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Nancy N. & Allen E. Shoemaker. Also by his sister, Everline Nichols; two granddaughters and their husbands, Melissa S. & Jeff Lawrence, and Allison S. & Pat Bingeman; also by four great-grandsons, Evan, Gabe and Aaron Lawrence and Owen Bingeman. He is also survived by a foster sister, Virgie Ann Shough; three nieces and several cousins. James or "Nick" as he liked to be called, was a truck driver by profession, never met a stranger and loved to travel. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial donations may be made to Fairview Church of the Brethren. Special thanks to the staff of Trinity Mission & Rehab & especially to Nurse Junior Brown for his care during the past two years. Graveside services will be conducted at Franklin Memorial Park 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Jeff Wray officiating. His family will receive friends 12:30 ? 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
