James Donald Potter

James Donald Potter, age 78 of Glade Hill died Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Harold Potter; his mother, Ruby Law Potter; his sister, Patricia Ann Potter LaPrade; and his brother, Aubrey Wayne Potter. Jim lived a rich life, serving in the Navy for eight years, and then embarking on a lifelong career as an electrical engineer. Jim was involved in his community, volunteering with several organizations and advocating for individuals with disabilities. Surviving are his wife, Kay Potter; children, Wendi Potter Kelly, Lesli Potter Norris (Christopher Norris), Holli Potter, Drew Potter (Rochelle Bowers Potter); grandchildren, Nicholas Kelly, Dakotah Kelly, Tanner Kelly, Kerrigan Kelly, Aidan Kelly, Ian Norris, Mia Potter, Daniel Potter; sister, Pamela Potter; aunt, Frances Matthews Arrington. Also surviving are several extended family members, including aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and close family friends. The family is asking in lieu of flowers to make a donation to either the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or charity of your choice that supports individuals in need. Memorial services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Bradley S. Dulaney officiating. His family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon until service time at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
