James Elton Stanley

James Elton Stanley, age 76 of Rocky Mount passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Pearl Stanley. Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Rebecca A. Stanley. Other survivors include cousins, Carroll Stanley, Pat Ingram (Larry), Ronald Holley (Phyllis), Deborah Trail, Linda Underwood, Gloria Bryan, Billy Law (Peggy), Curtis Holley, Jerry Chance (Joyce); brother-in-law, Donald Amos; sister-in-law, Annette Bowman (Johnny); and niece, Beth Ann Bowman. Jimmy graduated from Bluefield Jr. College and received a B.A. degree from Bridgewater College. He then attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary and spoke in churches throughout the county as needed. He was a member of Rocky Mount Baptist Church and worked at MW Manufacturing for 27 years. Later he enjoyed woodworking and working outside in his yard. Thanks to Freddie Peters, Trinity Mission Nursing Home and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Palliative Care Unit for their care. Graveside services will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Jeffrey Robinson and Dr. Jack Corvin officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 85 West Church Street, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
