James "Tom" Thomas Johnson

James Thomas “Tom” Johnson, age 88 of Rocky Mount went to be with the Lord Monday, December 21, 2009. He was born April 8, 1921 a son of the late Walter Irvin Johnson and Cora Powell Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Wray Johnson; six brothers and one sister. Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, James and Patricia Johnson of Beckley, W.Va., Charles and Shelia Johnson of Rocky Mount, Va.; three granddaughters, Lisa (John) Jewers of Lancaster, PA, Stephanie (Jeremy) Lawson of Rocky Mount, Va., Jennifer (Brian) Hunt of Beckley, W.Va.; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Elsie Johnson Poindexter, Glade Hill, Va. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. James W. Johnson and Rev. Mark Stugelmeyer officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff of Fork Mountain Adult Rest Home for the care they provided Tom over the past five and a half years.
