James G. (Jim) Walker, age 81 of Penhook passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015. Jim was born March 4, 1934 in Penhook, Va. to William and Elizabeth Martin Walker. He was the middle child of 11 children, having five brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joyce Hall Walker; two daughters, Robin Lynne Walker and Ray Cassidy, Elizabeth W. (Libby) and Rick Farmer; one son, J. Galen Walker and Darlene; four grandchildren, William (Bud) Frye and Tina, Heather L. and Chris Koran, Jamie Walker and Brook Walker; two great-grandsons, William (Bud, Jr.) Frye and Hunter James Frye; his beloved beagle, Fred; two brothers, Danny Walker, Dale Walker (Belinda); one sister, Pat Marlowe; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Walker and Nannie Walker; brother-in-law, James B. Walker; and special friends, Harry Cousins, Stewart Adkins and Brooks Frye. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Landis, Haynel and Larry Walker; sisters, Hazel Turner, Josephine Shorter, Lutie Walker and Kittie Hubbard. Jim worked over 40 years in the telephone communications business mostly in the southeast. His favorite place working was in Floyd County and the people there. He loved traveling with Abbott Trailways and the many friends he made during the travels over the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and cruises. The Abbott staff was like family to him. He was a member of Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren. He loved his church family and Pastor Mike. Jim also enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music and collecting cars. Our hearts are broken to see him go, but we have God’s assurance we’ll be together again when we all get to heaven. Funeral services will be conducted from Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren, 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2015 with Pastor Mike Gallimore officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren, c/o Jeremy Adkins, 16405 Snow Creek Road, Penhook, Virginia 24137. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
