Jane Brown Burrus

Jane Brown Burrus, age 87 of Rocky Mount, Va. passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow (Woodie) Burrus; parents, Baxter (B.B.) and Phoebe Brown; sisters, Nancy Kimbro and Sue Powell; and brother, John Brown. Jane taught in the Franklin County Schools for 32 years in Callaway, the old FC Junior HS and as well FCHS. She was a member of the Rocky Mount Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her sisters, Virginia (Gin) Brown, Fort Collins Colorado and Sally Cline, Graham NC; and brother, Richard (Dick) Brown, Harrisonburg, Va. Her three sons, Gerald Burrus and wife Brenda, Riner, Va.; Rex Burrus, Rocky Mount Va., John Burrus and wife Pat, Roanoke, Va., daughter-in-law, Pandy Burrus, Rocky Mount, Va.; four grandchildren, Brad Burrus and wife Shelly, Pulaski, Va., Bethany Alexander and husband Kevin, Christiansburg, Va., Breanna Hager and husband Will, Dublin, Va., and Megan Pond and husband Kevin Richmond, Va.; and great-grandchildren, Avery, Adisson, Aiden, Atlee, Braden, Landen, and Trent. Jane and Woodrow were both Educators and volunteers within Franklin County for their adult lives and were very proud of their time in the county and the people they were able to meet and benefit. The friends they made were life long and dear to them after their service careers ended. A family time of reflection will be held at Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount on Sunday, December 18, 2011 from 1-2 p.m. with a memorial service beginning at 2 p.m. with Rev. Russ Merritt officiating. The graveside service for family and friends will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of Flowers we ask that you make contributions to the Burrus Home, 850 Scuffling Hill Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 for the Handicapped or Franklin County Rescue Squad, P.O.
