Jean Hanson Harlow, age 79, of Rocky Mount, passed late Saturday night. She was born in Raysal, West Virginia, on November 10th, 1934. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ruby and Dan Hanson; brothers, Dan Herbert Hanson Jr. and Wayne Hanson; son, Shannon Timothy Harlow; daughter, Lisa Harlow Ricker, and husband Shannon Harlow. She is survived by her daughter, Meghan Montross Harlow; and a sister, Mary Ellen Hanson McGraw. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Corbin and Collin Ricker, of Columbus, Ohio. Mrs. Harlow was a loving and caring mother to two sets of children at two different points in her life - she, along with her husband, made the decision to legally adopt their granddaughter Meghan when their son was unable to care for her. Being a mother for about 40 straight years is not an easy task, but her love for her family knew no bounds. She was also an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church with her husband, serving on the altar guild, for many years. The family requests that any donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 101 Church St. NW, Rocky Mount, VA, 24151. Funeral services will be conducted at Trinity Episcopal Church 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday with The Rev. David E. Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg. The family will receive friends from 11-12 noon on Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
