Jean Ruth

Jean Ruth of Rocky Mount, gained her angel wings on Friday, January 16, 2026 at the age of 92. She was born June 13, 1933 to the late Charles and Minnie Young of Ferrum. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bob Ruth; and several of her siblings.

She is survived by her attentive and loving daughters, Diane Ruth-Lovell (Jim) and Sebrina Ruth-Cooper (Greg); her five fabulous grandchildren, Robert Lovell, Austin Lovell, Duncan Lovell (Olivia), Beatrice Woody (Jared) and Amelia Ruth-Cooper; and one precious great grandson, Briar Lovell. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Blankenship; and several nieces and nephews.

Jean worked for DuPont in Martinsville for many years alongside her sisters before retirement. She was a faithful member at Furnace Creek Baptist Church then Rocky Mount Baptist Church. She helped with VBS, any meal held at the church and the after-school program, Good News Club at Lee M Waid. She loved knitting scarves, weaving throws and working in her yard. Jean also had many opportunities to travel and take cruises, even surviving a plane crash in her younger days. She didn’t sit still very long and had a massive sweet tooth. She always had a cake baked and a full candy dish.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Good Samaritan Susan S. Strauss Hospice House. The nurses and staff took such good care of all of us during our time there with mom. We want to thank Good Samaritan Hospice in general for their wonderful care of mom before she went home. We can’t say enough about the care she received.

Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2026 with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
