Jeffrey L. Chewning, age 65 of Wirtz passed away Saturday, January 24, 2026 peacefully, leaving a legacy defined by faith, family, and a life of quiet service. He was a man of deep convictions who found his greatest joy in his church community, the thrill of a classic Mustang, and the loyal companionship of his dogs.
Jeffrey is survived by his devoted wife, Beach B. Chewning who stood by his side throughout life's many journeys, his sons, Lewyn Poage, Tyson Poage, and Travis Poage; and his granddaughter, Emmaleigh Poage. He is also survived by his nephews, Joey Harlow and his wife Angela, Josh Harlow and his wife Emily.
He was preceded in death by his father, Steven Chewning; his mother, Bonnie Chewning; his brother, Eddie Chewning; and his sister, Lorie Chewning.
Jeffrey will be equally remembered for the things that fueled his soul: his love for his "four-legged" best friends, the pride he took in his cars, and his years of dedicated service as a firefighter with Fort Lewis Fire Department. He lived with a servant’s heart and a spirit that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Memorial services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 30, 2026. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
