Jerry Lee Yopp, age 64 of Check, VA died Saturday, June 14, 2008.
He was a loving husband, father and pawpaw. He was also honorably discharged as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army, he retired after 25 years of service with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department as a Deputy and Chief Investigator, and was a member of Mount Union Church of the Brethren where he served as a Deacon for many years.
Mr. Yopp was preceded in death by his parents, Garnett and Eunice Yopp; brothers, Michael, Doug, Gorden and Larry; sister, Ann.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Gearline Guilliams Yopp; children, Timothy and Donna Yopp, Laurie and Perry West, Kristie and Eric Greenman; seven grandchildren, Mason and Makenna Yopp, Madison and Garrett Greenman, Ethan, Carson and Emma West; sisters and their spouses, Patty and Phillip Hodges, Linda and Ronnie Harden, Lucille Deweese; brothers and their spouse, Billy and Alice Yopp, Raymond Yopp; brother-in-law, Walter Holland; sister-in-law, Joyce Yopp; and was also an uncle to his many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to offer a special thanks to Gail Foster, Vicky Stuart, and the staff of Southern Care Hospice, very special thanks to Dr. Marie Malinchak and staff for their support and care during his illness, and special thanks to the dialysis staff for their special care.
Funeral services will be conducted from Mount Union Church of the Brethren 10 a.m. Monday with Rev. Greg Fleshman and Rev. Warren Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Yopp Family Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted or the family request that donations be made to the American Kidney Foundation.
His family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
