Jesse Noble Jones, Jr., age 80 of Boones Mill departed this life on July 19, 2016 ending his long- suffering battle with auto-immune encephalitis. He was born in Roanoke on November 30, 1935, to Jesse Noble, Sr. and Mary Harris Jones. He graduated from Wm. Byrd High School and received his BA from Bridgewater College. He was an Estimatics Team Manager for State Farm Insurance in the Roanoke Office retiring after 42 years of service. He was a former Lt. Col. in the Virginia Defense Force and a retired Sgt. Major from the US Marine Corps, with 31 years of service—an accomplishment of which he was extremely proud! He was a member of Bethlehem Church of the Brethren where he served as a Deacon, member of the Finance Committee and Usher. He was a Past Master of Melrose Masonic Lodge #139; an Emeritus Member of the Director’s Staff of Kazim Shrine Temple; member of the Roanoke Valley Shrine Club; a Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Roanoke Court #59 Royal Order of Jesters. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Karen Elizabeth Jones. Left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife, Jan; daughters, Donna Jones Hill (Randy), Oak Hill, VA, and Joyce Jones Voorhees (Jay), Lake Mary, FL; granddaughter, Hailey Faye Voorhees, Farmville, VA; grandsons, Jake Thomas Voorhees, Lake Mary, FL and Nicholas Jordan Hill, Oak Hill, VA; sister, Betty Jones Whitescarver (Penn), Stuart, FL; brother, Frank C. Jones, II (Betty), Stafford, VA; sister-in-law, Sheila Williams Smith, Portsmouth, VA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Also a special buddy, Harlan Bowman, Boones Mill, VA. Visitation will be held at Flora Funeral Service, 665 S. Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA on Friday evening, July 22nd, from 5-8 pm. Masonic Rites will follow at 8 pm. Services will be conducted on Saturday, July 23rd, at 11 am at Bethlehem Church of the Brethren, 4250 Bethlehem Road, Boones Mill, VA. Burial will be in the Bethlehem Church Cemetery, followed by Military Honors by the USMC Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 950 W.
