Jessie D. Burnette, age 85, of Wirtz went home to be with the lord and her husband Tom on January 16, 2009.
She and her husband operated Burnette’s Diner in the 50’s and 60’s in Roanoke, Va. They also were independent mail contractors with the U.S. Postal Service.
She is predeceased by her husband, Delmar L. Burnette (Tom); her father, Jay Earl Deer; mother, Ethel Christine Deer; grandsons, Donnie Groseclose and Warren “Peanut” Bishop. Also predeceasing her are her three sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are her daughters and spouses, Evelyn and Don Groseclose, Bonnie and Danny Sheetz; daughters, Kathryn Burnette, BJ and partner Ruth Frazier. Also surviving are her sons, Delma and Debbie Burnette, David and Lucia Burnette; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; two sisters, Clara Ingram and Jean Canter. She will surely be missed by all.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel Monday January 19, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Melvin Harris will be officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park.
