Jessie Beryl MacRae King, age 97, went to be with Lord on Friday, November 25, 2016 at her home. She was born on May 5, 1919 to the late Clarence and Jessie MacRae. Also preceding her in death were her husband John T. King, her brother John C. MacRae and her son-in-law Michael L. Scott. She is survived by her 3 children Barbara King Scott, David Macrae King (Micky Keener) and Deborah Diane King (Cricket Beck); 2 grandchildren Jeffrey T. Peters (Lori Messenger) and Daryn Peters: and 2 great-grandchildren Kyle O. Peters and Keira A. Clemons. She is also survived by her best friend Keiko Young, her faithful companion Skyy and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Beryl was a Registered Nurse having graduated from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, Quebec where she worked during World War II. She continued her career with the Canadian Indian Health Services in Moose Bay, Saskatchewan where she met and married her husband John. From there she worked at various hospitals, retiring in the mid 80’s from Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount, VA. In her retirement years Beryl enjoyed her family and friends and her quilting, knitting and bridge clubs. Beryl was a member of the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church – Backpack Feed the Children Fund – 35 North Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Her family will receive friends Sunday 4-6 pm at Flora Funeral Home. Her service will be held at the Rocky Mount United Methodist Church, 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November, 28, 2016 with the Rev. Will Waller, Dr. Jackie Spence and Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the John Peters family, the Jacob Brubaker family, A Nurses Touch and Carilion Hospice for the wonderful and loving care given to Beryl during her illness.
