Jessie Owen Tyree, age 85 of Ferrum died Thursday, May 7, 2009.
He was a member of Chestnut Primitive Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his declining health.
Mr. Tyree was born July 19, 1923 to the late Owen Smith and Lulie Turner Tyree. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Abshire Tyree; son, Timothy Wayne Tyree; three brothers, Henry Cobbs, Claude, William Tyree; sister-in-law, Nancy Tyree; two sons-in-law, Stuart Martin and James Francis Joyce.
He was proud to have served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during WWII. Mr. Tyree retired from DuPont in December 1981 after 32 years of service.
Surviving are his three daughters, Sue Carroll Tyree Joyce, Rebecca Tyree Hash and husband Philip, Rhonda Tyree James and husband Winford; daughter-in-law, Bertha Tyree; grandchildren, Kelly Martin and wife Leah, Kimberly Tyree, Brandon Hash and wife Kelli, Chris Stone and wife Vanessa, Corey Stone and Randi Hash; great-grandchildren, Ethan Amos Hash, Owen Thomas Stone; step-great-granddaughters, Abygayle and Emilie Evilsizer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances McGhee and Bill, Lucy Prillaman and Nelson; sister-in-law, Ann Tyree; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to his caregivers at home and at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab of Rocky Mount.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Saturday with Elder Marvin Brumfield officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
His family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and other times at the home of Rhonda and Winford James.
