Jimmie Underwood

Jimmie Matthew Underwood of Ferrum, Virginia passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born to the late Elton and Eliza Underwood, Jimmie lived a life marked by strength, kindness, community service and devotion to those he loved. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmie Wayne Underwood; sister, Ola Underwood Martin; brothers, E.L. Underwood, Jackie Underwood; and special niece, Jacqueline Nichole Underwood.

Jimmie was a member of the Evangelistic House of Prayer. A lifelong member of the Ferrum Volunteer and Rescue Squad Department. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Cabinet maker for 40+ years and owner and operator of Underwood's Customer Kitchens, Inc. in Ferrum. Jim also had a great love for antique cars. He was a member of Gideons International and the Lions Club.

Jimmie is survived by his wife, Mamie Darlene Underwood of 52 years; daughters, Eliza Underwood Smith (Tommy) and Mandi Underwood Taylor (Daniel); his grandchildren, Summer Meador (Shannon), Thomas Jefferson (Abby), Brandon Jefferson (Paige), Casey McGirt, Seth McGirt, Levi Stuart (Greg); Sasha McGirt, Landon Chittum and Haley Smith; great-grandchildren, Brantley, Remington and Austin Meador, Everly Underwood and Icarus Dow.

Also surviving are his sisters, Ellen Bobbitt, Donna Ware (Clayton), Sylvia Hodges (Bill); sister-in-law, Linda Underwood; brothers, Billy Underwood and David Bobbitt (Patsy); special friends who are loved like family, Diann Wagoner, Jimmy Hooker, Larry Hylton, and Linda Dalton.

His family will receive friends at Flora Funeral Service 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025 with Pastor Bud Nichols officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
