Joan E. Walters, 75, of Glade Hill, VA, formerly of Glendon Borough, PA, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in Carilion Hospital, Roanoke, VA. She was born January 19, 1938, in Glendon, she was a daughter of the late William and Mildred Merritt Leedom. She and her husband, Harry D. Walters, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on August 20, 2012.Joan retired in 1997 from Wilson Area School District, where she worked in the cafeteria for thirty years. She was a member of St. Luke’s Old Williams Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, where she had been a member of WELCA.
Joan was also a member of Safety First Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, West Easton, where she was a past president for 16 years; Brown & Lynch American Legion Post #9 Ladies Auxiliary, Palmer Township, the former Easton Elk’s Ladies Auxiliary and Ruritan Club, Burnt Chimney, VA. She had formerly been a member of the National PTA and Wilson Band Boosters.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, David K. Walters, of Wilson Borough; two daughters, Darlene A. Jeffrey-Parker and her husband Mark, of Glade Hill, VA and Donna L. Saylor and her husband Bill, of Wilson Borough; a brother, Donald Leedom, of Bethlehem Township; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Somma. Funeral services will be 10:30am Tuesday in the Strunk Funeral Home, Inc., 2101 Northampton Street, Wilson Borough. Call Monday 6-7:30pm in the funeral home. Burial will be in Northampton Memorial Shrine.
