Joe Sawyers, age 74 of Ferrum, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2008.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Sawyers.
He was an avid outdoorsman where he enjoyed farming and fishing. Joe served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He also retired from the Ford Motor Company and moved to Franklin County in 1987.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Ann Sawyers; his children, Ricky Sawyers, Aleta Crabtree, Ray Sawyers; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Browning and Peggy Sawyers.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday with Pastor Kendell Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
His family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
