John W. Hahn, age 75 of Penhook, devoted husband, father and Poppy joined our Lord and Savior on Friday, October 30th after more than a six year battle with the neurological disease, CBD. He is survived by his soul mate and wife of 52 years, Dale; his daughter, Nancy and her children James, Johnathan, Michael, & Jennifer Henderson; his son and daughter-in-law, John and Tanya, and their children, Evan, Grace, Ethan and Ellis. He graduated LaSalle Academy in NYC, served in the USMC, graduated from Queens College NYC, and Harvard, where he made many international friends that lasted throughout his life. He brought the Atlantic Companies to the Roanoke Valley in 1970, and created more than 1000 jobs in over 30 years. All of his employees held a special place in his heart. He knew them all by name. He was a board member of Sun Trust Bank and a founding board member of Luxury Market in NYC, Chairman of the Board of Directors for AGENA Corp, Chairman of the Board of Directors for Alliance for Productive Tech and served on many other industry boards during his 42 years in the insurance industry. He was in the Roanoke Kiwanis Club from 1970-87 and the Salem Rotary from 2000-2015. He was instrumental in starting a military committee in the Salem Rotary. They sponsored Christmas parties for families of soldiers serving overseas during the Persian Gulf War. His most rewarding accomplishment was co-founding the Military Family Support Center. He was a member of Roanoke CC, Hidden Valley CC, Water's Edge CC and the NYC Harvard Club. Their family home has been in Water's Edge for over 16 years after returning to the Roanoke Valley from NYC. After his family, his passion was world travel. He was eager to share his traveling experiences to help others plan their travels. He also enjoyed music and playing tennis. He was blessed with many wonderful friends. Their prayers meant a great deal during his journey through his rare disease. The family would like to say THANK YOU to the Carilion Hospice team of Franklin Memorial Hospital, who became family during the last three months, especially Karen T., Karen P., Kitty and Meg C. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 21st at St. John's Lutheran Church, 4608 Brambleton Ave, Roanoke, Va. A reception will follow the service. The family will receive friends at that time.
