After years of bondage to Lewybody Dementia, John L. Hartman, III of Henry, Virginia was set free Wednesday, November 18, 2009 to spend eternity in Heaven with his beloved Lord and Savior. John was born in Roanoke on January 21, 1942, the son of Louise Hartman and the late John Lewis Hartman, Jr. After graduating from Hargrave Military Academy and Roanoke College, he worked for NS Railway for 34 years, retiring in 2000. Throughout his life, John was active in church work, serving as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, AWANA leader, and usher. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Anne (Tadlock); two daughters, Sally Ewan and husband Jack of Columbus, Ohio, and Susan Jellum and husband Roger of Henry, Virginia; grandchildren, Nigel, Parker, and Dempsey Ewan. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Joyce Hahnenkratt and husband Don of Phoenix, Arizona, Nancy Luckey of Denver, North Carolina, Cheri Gonzalez and husband, Rafael of Salem; and many nieces and nephews. John will be missed by all who knew him and enjoyed his energetic personality and sense of humor. Memorial services will be conducted from Franklin Heights Baptist Church 3 p.m. Sunday, November 22, 2009. His family requests no flowers and that memorial donations may be given to Franklin Heights Baptist Church, 110 Hilltop Drive, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or to the Voice of the Martyrs, P.O. Box 443, Bartlesville, Oklahoma 74005. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
