John Henry Mattox

Mr. John Henry Mattox, age 76 departed this life from his earthly home on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

Born on May 26, 1949, he was the beloved son of the late Walter and Virginia Mattox. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Walter "Duke" Mattox; and his sister, Rachel Clark.

John received his early education in the public schools of Franklin County. During his school years, he was known for his respectful nature and steady presence among his peers. He carried those same qualities throughout his life quiet strength, resilience, and a deep devotion to family.

Throughout his life, John was a man of simple pleasures and strong values. He believed in hard work, loyalty, and maintaining close family ties. Whether spending time with loved ones, sharing stories, or simply sitting in reflection, his calm demeanor brought comfort to those around him. John often considered himself the "love man."

John will be remembered for his enduring love for his family and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him. His presence brought familiarity and warmth to family gatherings, and his wisdom and example will continue to guide those he leaves behind.

He leaves to cherish his memory James "Snookie" Mattox, Jerry Mattox, and James "Charm" Mattox, all of Rocky Mount, Virginia; Two sisters Nancy Mattox of Detroit, Michigan, and Victoria "Putten" Mattox of Rocky Mount, Virginia; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2026. Interment will follow in the Cook & Gill Cemetery (Powells Store Road, Glade Hill, VA). His family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
