John Oliver "Red" Meeks, 95, of Rocky Mount, died on September 2, 2014. He was born in Franklin County, Virginia, on September 19, 1918, to the late Jim Tom Meeks and Winnie H. Meeks. He was also preceded in death by sisters and brothers: Mary Hodges, Virginia Robertson Camp, Mamie Meeks, Frances Lawson, Pearl Chancellor, Joe Henry Meeks, Fred Meeks, Peter Meeks, John Meeks and James Meeks. He is survived by his Daughters Anita Jones (Donnie) and Lorrie Williams, and Son Michael Meeks (Lynn); Grandchildren Nick Jones (Tracy), Ashley Nolen (J.P.), Emily Meeks, Katie Meeks, Zane Williams, and two great-grandchildren Drew Nolen and John William Jones.
  
  
  John was a life-long member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where his faith was a witness to all. He was devoted to his children and grandchildren and many other friends and family. He enjoyed farming and hunting. He entertained everyone with his great sense of humor and warm heart.
  
  
  Funeral Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at the Flora Funeral Home Chapel in Rocky Mount, Virginia with Dr. William Shively officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
