John Robert Miller

John Robert Miller, age 85 of Rocky Mount went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 26, 2023. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Miller; mother, Ann Rose Carney; and father, Melburn Z. Miller.  John was a United States Navy Veteran serving our country for over 20 years. He retired in 1975 as a Chief Quartermaster E-8. He was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and at the age of 17 he joined the Navy and met then married his wife of 64 years, Shirley Ann Wilson Miller. Also surviving are his daughter, Charlene Marie Miller Hutchins; son, James Albert Miller both of Rocky Mount, VA; son-in-law, Rudolph Lynwood Hutchins; two grandsons, Michael Shane Miller and his wife Michelle, and David Dixon; great-grandchildren, Telle Miller and wife Elina of Texas, Austin Saponaro of Rocky Mount, Lydia Miller of Martinsville. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Mountain View Memorial Park with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
