John Thomas Moody of Rocky Mount went home to be with Lord on Saturday, May 27, 2017. He was born October 1, 1942 in Beaverdam, VA and was preceded in death by by his parents, Lunsford and Alese Moody; daughters, Sheila Lynn Moody and Deborah Moody Bennett; a brother, Robert Peyton Moody. Surviving are his wife of over 50 years, Janet Houser Moody; daughter, Sarah Moody Arnold and husband Joe; four grandchildren, Grace Bennett, Logan and Sawyer Arnold and Starr Loving; brothers and sisters, Wesley Moody (Doris), Margaret Moody Jessee, Samuel Moody (Marian) and Daniel Moody (Robyn); in-laws, Sharon Harrison, Roger Houser and Edgar Houser; a number of nieces and nephews. He graduated from Ferrum Junior College, High Point College, Virginia Western and received his Masters Degree at UVA. John was a member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church where he drove the church bus for Awanas and youth programs. He loved his grandchildren and and loved baseball, being an Atlanta Braves fan. John was a retired educator from Franklin County Public Schools and taught school all over the state of Virginia and read Laura Ingalls Wilder books to elementary students. After retirement he had a successful landscaping business. Funeral services will be conducted at Franklin Heights Church, 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017 with Pastor Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow at the family Cemetery in Beaverdam on Wednesday. His family will receive friends one hour prior to service on Tuesday at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Franklin Heights BackPack Ministry. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
