John Daniel Robertson

John Daniel Robertson, age 87 of Hardy passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2015. He was born June 17, 1928 to the late Charlie R. Robertson and Emmie Mary Hudson Robertson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Martha Anne Turner Robertson. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers; and five sisters, Carroll Robertson, O. Ray Robertson, Verlie R. Ellis, Vernie R. Smith, Minnie R. Perdue, C. Herbert Robertson, Faye R. Perdue, Mary Anna R. Lynch, W. Clyde Robertson, Elliott H. Robertson, Forest J. Robertson, and James A. Robertson. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Annette R. and Ben Ashton of Dahlgren, VA; son, Charles D. Robertson of Fredericksburg, VA, and daughter-in-law Sharon E. Robertson of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Bennie Ashton of Dahlgren, VA, and William D. Robertson of Fredericksburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews. He served in the US Army from 1951-1953 and was in the artillery during the Korean Conflict. He received the Bronze Star, Korean Service Medal, and United Nations Medal as a PFC. He worked at Nelson Hardware, Thompson Corporation (now TRW), and Virginia Department of Transportation where he retired after 23 years. He was a life-long member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Moneta, VA where he participated in many of the ministries of the church including Lay Leader, Sunday School Superintendent, and Choir Member. His interests included serving the church, gardening, and visiting family and those sick and shut-ins of the community. He also loved to sing in Sunday church services and at revivals. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 4, at 11:00 AM at Epworth United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Epworth UMC Building Fund, 60 Merriman Way Road, Moneta, VA 24121. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday, December 3 at Flora Funeral Service, 665 S. Main St. Rocky Mount, VA.
