John Landis Walker

Landis Walker, 87, of Penhook, Virginia passed away Friday May 1, 2015. He was born April 23, 1928 in Snow Creek, VA, the son of William Edward Walker and Elizabeth Martin Walker. Landis graduated from Franklin County High School. He was a Franklin County Flue Cured Tobacco and Small Grain Farmer. He worked for Neals Warehouse for several years and as a Compliance Supervisor in earlier years and then later as County Operations Reviewer for the United States Department of Agriculture. He was an appraiser for crop insurance. Landis enjoyed politics and was active in his community serving as President of the Young Farmers and a charter member and Post Commander of the VFW, Obie Minter Post 10840. Landis was also an active member of Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren as long as he was able.

He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years Lottie; daughter Beth; son Sterling; brothers and sisters, Haynel Walker, Larry Walker, Hazel Turner, Lutie Walker, Josephine Shorter and Kitty Hubbard.

Landis is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, John Landis (Johnny), Jr. and Cindy Walker; his daughter and son-in-law, Brondwyn W. and D. Greg Sheffield; one precious grandchild Sydney Beth Sheffield; brothers and sisters, Danny Reid Walker, Jim Walker (Joyce), Philip Dale Walker(Belinda), Pat Marlowe; numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Landis?s life will be held on 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Mike Gallimore and Rev. J. D. Harmon officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boones Chapel Church of the Brethren, c/o Jeremy Adkins 16405 Snow Creek Road, Penhook, VA 24137.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
