Johnnie William Perdue, age 87 of Glade Hill, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 6, 2009.
He was born February 3, 1922 in Franklin County to the late Lewis and Annie Kate Perdue. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Jim, Claude, Albert, Roy and Troy; sisters, Josie, Lydia and Stella.
Mr. Perdue is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Mattie Pauline Perdue; three children, Gary D. Perdue and his late daughter-in-law, Cindy H. Perdue, of Union Hall, Phyllis A. Bende and husband Robert Bende of New Jersey, Jeffrey M. Perdue and wife Wanda W. Perdue of Glade Hill; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Velma Kendrick and husband Jack; sister-in-law, Catherine A. Perdue of Rocky Mount.
He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Rocky Mount. During World War II, he served his country four years in the US Air Force, three of which was spent in Southeast Asia as an Aircraft Mechanic.
Funeral services will be conducted from Woodlawn Baptist Church 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Eddie Hawks officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, Building Fund, 30 Woodlawn Drive, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
The family would like to thank the Virginia Veterans Care Center in Salem and Gentle Shepard Hospice for their help, care and concern during his illness and passing.
