Jonathan "Johnny" Michael Dudley, of Callaway, Va., was called home on Friday, September 28, 2018.
He was born to Barry and Sharon Dudley, on December 14, 1985. He was the youngest of four children and earned his title as "the baby" of the family, towering over his older siblings at 6'6. As a child, Johnny enjoyed spending time with his family on camping trips to Jamestown, fishing at the family pond in Floyd, and hunting in Ferrum.
In elementary school he met his best friend, D.J. Young and they became inseparable. Through D.J. he met the love of his life Stella Young and married her in the summer of 2006. Although they eventually separated, Stella remained his best friend and his inspiration towards sobriety.
On June 4, 2011 he was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Gama Delta T Cell Lymphoma. After a yearlong fight and a five year remission period, his cancer returned. He spent the last year making memories with family that will be cherished forever. He was one of a handful of people that was able to beat the odds and to have this rare cancer go in to remission!
Through all of his trials, Johnny remained a steadfast, loyal friend to all. His family and friends will miss seeing his "happy face" and hearing his words of wisdom.
He was preceded in death by his fearless big brother, Barry Morton Dudley, Jr. His best friend, D.J. Young, and his beautiful, loving mother, Sharon Mae Hunt Dudley.
He is survived by his father Barry Morton Dudley ( friend Gail and her daughter, Samantha), sister, Kelly Dudley Smith (husband Petey Smith), brother Brian Matthew Dudley (wife Danielle Dudley), nephews and nieces Shane Moore, Justin Bailey, Mercedes Bailey, Trey Dudley (Brooke Dudley), Olivia Smith, Kolby Dudley, Bentley Dudley, Madilyn Dudley, Miranda Dudley, and Levi Dudley; two great nieces, Brayleigh Dudley and Ryleigh Bailey. The family would like to acknowledge the love, care and support from Dr. Michael Duvas, Holly and staff at UVA over the past seven years.
