Joseph H. Tolbert, Jr.

Joseph H. Tolbert, Jr., loving father, grandfather and husband, age 67 of Rocky Mount went home to be with the Lord Monday, October 18, 2010. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph H. Tolbert, Sr. and Dorothy F. Tolbert. He served in the Battery C 4th Battalion, 113th Field Artillery, NC Army National Guard. He retired from E.I. Dupont with 32 years service and then worked for Mountain Milk Hauling for 12 years. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Patricia Hudson Tolbert of Rocky Mount; daughters, Cyndi Tolbert of Glen Allen, Va., Tara T. Gibson of Rocky Mount; the joy of his life, his granddaughter, Ashley L. Gibson; brothers, Ronnie Tolbert (Gwen), David Tolbert (Vicki); sister, Gina T. Carter (Ken) all of Eden, NC.; sisters-in-law, Margaret H. Hodges, Eva H. Tyree, June H. Palmer; brother and sister-in-law, Ned and Essyebelle Hudson; many wonderful nieces and nephews; special friends, Duck Akers, Carroll Simmons and Fletcher Yarbrough; and many other loving friends. Funeral services will be conducted from Redwood United Methodist Church 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Bradley S. Dulaney officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Redwood United Methodist Church Building Fund, 3001 Old Franklin Turnpike, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
